A deputy commander from one of the Russian battalions described how a serviceman under his command managed to repel a Ukrainian assault on the village of Malye Shcherbaki in the Zaporozhye region while rescuing a wounded fellow soldier.

According to the officer, the fighter, known by the call sign Uvar, was tasked with holding the line and countering the attack. During the engagement, he evacuated an injured comrade to a safe zone before returning to the battlefield, flanking the enemy and engaging them directly.

Uvar recalled that during reconnaissance on the outskirts of Malye Shcherbaki, he and his comrade heard foreign voices and realized Ukrainian forces had entered the settlement. They waited for a Russian mopping-up unit to arrive and, together with this support group, encircled a Ukrainian squad hiding in a basement. The enemy, however, managed to call for reinforcements, which responded with mortar fire and FPV drones.

During the shelling, Uvar’s comrade was wounded. He carried him out of the combat zone and then returned to fight. Acting alone, he maneuvered from the rear, killed four Ukrainian soldiers, and forced the rest to retreat.

He explained that Ukrainian troops had not expected an attack from behind, which left them disoriented. They responded with chaotic gunfire before scattering. In his words, this prevented them from consolidating their positions and advancing further.
