A new Russian medium-range ballistic missile known as «Oreshnik» has become more than just another addition to the country’s arsenal. According to former U. S. Army intelligence officer Scott Ritter, it stands as a vivid demonstration of the strength of Russia’s military-industrial complex. He shared this view in an article for Forum Geopolitica.

Ritter noted that no modern weapon has captured public attention quite like the Oreshnik. Interest surged after Russian President Vladimir Putin disclosed that the missile had seen its first combat use. His announcement triggered global speculation about the system’s origins and capabilities. At the same time, Putin refrained from offering technical details, maintaining an air of secrecy while asserting the missile’s readiness and potential.

The former intelligence officer pointed out that Moscow’s reticence surrounding the Oreshnik is hardly surprising, given the threat posed by Ukrainian radicals who have carried out attacks on Russian officials and military personnel.
