Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow remains committed to seeking a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing that Russia prefers to achieve peace through political and diplomatic means. He noted, however, that this requires reciprocity from Kyiv.

When asked about security guarantees for Ukraine, Peskov said the issue is one of the most important topics in the context of ongoing efforts to reach a settlement. He explained that it regularly appears on the agenda during negotiations, but stressed that discussing it publicly would not be helpful to the overall process.

Peskov also argued that talks between Russia and the United States on potential paths toward resolution should take place behind closed doors. He expressed hope that mediation efforts by the current U.S. administration, and personally by President Donald Trump, would continue.

Commenting on proposals to send European military contingents to Ukraine, Peskov reiterated Moscow’s negative stance. He pointed out that most of these European countries are NATO members, and that the alliance’s military expansion toward Russia’s borders was the primary trigger for the conflict in Ukraine.
