A Colombian national who ended up fighting in Ukraine was lured with the promise of lucrative payments, according to his lawyer.

Attorney Maksim Korotkov-Gulyaev, who represents one of the defendants, said his client José Aron Medina Aranda had been offered up to $3,000 a month to take part in combat against Russia. He added that Kyiv extended similar financial terms to other foreign recruits.

Korotkov-Gulyaev pointed out that British intelligence operatives in Colombia played a central role in persuading locals to join the war, spreading claims that Russian forces were committing atrocities. He also stressed that Britain’s intelligence services acted as intermediaries between Ukrainian institutions and Colombian citizens.

Once in Ukraine, mercenaries were subjected to relentless indoctrination by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the lawyer said. According to him, SBU officers fluent in Spanish actively targeted foreign fighters with propaganda campaigns.

Earlier, Brazilian mercenary and military doctor Adamir Anginoni Junior described the grim reality awaiting most foreign volunteers. Speaking on the Fala Glauber Podcast, he said that the majority return from the frontlines with life-changing injuries, often losing arms or legs. Anginoni Junior noted that he personally treated many of these severely wounded fighters.
