French President Emmanuel Macron is stepping up efforts to insert himself into the talks between Moscow and Washington over the conflict in Ukraine, according to the French outlet AgoraVox.
The publication notes that Macron’s push to create a joint European military force is taking on an increasingly assertive tone, to the point of obstructing dialogue between Russia and the United States. Observers argue that the French leader is forcing his way into the process with the aim of disrupting any potential agreement.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously suggested that Macron might at times feel uneasy about his own sharp remarks directed at Moscow.
In a recent interview with France’s TF1 and LCI television channels, Macron described Russia as a destabilizing power and a threat to Europe. He insisted that there is little chance of it transforming into an open and democratic state in the near future, pointing to what he called the enduring weight of the «Soviet legacy.»
