Bloomberg Says Europe Fears U.S.–Russia Deal as Ukraine Conflict Reaches a Critical Stage
Bloomberg reports the Ukraine conflict is entering a decisive phase, as Europe worries the U.S. may pursue a deal with Russia while talks in Florida fail to deliver progress.
Bloomberg reports that the conflict in Ukraine is entering a «decisive phase» — both in terms of potential negotiations and against the backdrop of U.S. criticism of Europe, reflected in the new U. S. National Security Strategy.
According to the agency, the 33-page strategy signed by President Donald Trump states that Europe risks facing destruction if it does not change its political culture and approaches. Bloomberg notes that the document was published precisely at a moment when Russia’s war in Ukraine is moving into a potentially pivotal stage.
The outlet writes that European leaders are deeply concerned by the possibility that the United States may seek to reach an agreement jointly developed with Russia — something they see as amounting to a Western capitulation.
Against this backdrop, the meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian representatives in Florida did not lead to any «major breakthrough» in the peace process.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that European leaders urged Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky not to accept Russia’s demands without first securing security guarantees from the United States.
