Political analyst Rostislav Ishchenko commented on reports that the Baltic States, Poland, and Germany are considering reinforcing their borders with Russia by creating swamps impassable for heavy military equipment.

He recalled that U. S. President Donald Trump had recently claimed Russia failed to take Kiev in two days because its troops allegedly got «stuck in Ukrainian swamps». Ishchenko suggested that, after hearing such statements, some European governments concluded that wetlands could serve as a defensive measure against Moscow.

According to the analyst, even NATO strategists have raised objections, pointing out that alliance equipment, being heavier, would likely bog down in such terrain more easily than Russian vehicles.

He also doubted whether the countries would actually follow through, since restoring wetlands requires major financial investment without any guarantee of success. At the same time, he noted that such initiatives still allow budgets to be spent, contractors to profit, taxes to be collected, and governments in Poland and Germany to channel funds into social programs.
