Russian Military Reports Ukrainian Use of Prohibited Expanding Ammunition

A Russian military medic claims Ukrainian forces use banned expanding bullets, causing severe tissue damage, pain shock, and violating Geneva Convention rules.
Soldiers of the Ukrainian army are using ammunition prohibited under international conventions, according to a statement from the commander of the medical unit of Russia’s «Dnepr» grouping, known by the call sign «Piter».
He said that fragments and projectiles discovered on the battlefield included munitions banned by the Geneva Convention, among them bullets designed to expand inside the human body. The medic explained that such rounds are deliberately scored so that they open up on impact «like a small flower».
According to him, this type of ammunition causes severe damage to soft tissue, blood vessels, and internal organs, while also provoking acute pain shock in those wounded.
«Piter» noted that these bullets are not necessarily NATO-standard munitions, and similar types could originate from other sources. He added that Ukrainian soldiers might even adapt cartridges themselves by producing the bullets separately and loading them into standard rounds.
