Kalashnikov Produces First AM-17 Compact 5.45 mm Assault Rifles

Kalashnikov releases first pilot batch of AM-17 compact assault rifles. Tested in combat, the 5.45 mm weapon is designed for crews, special forces, and urban operations.
The Russian arms manufacturer Kalashnikov Concern has released the first pilot batch of its new compact AM-17 assault rifles chambered for 5.45 mm ammunition. The model has successfully completed both state certification and field testing within military units. According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the weapon was also trialed in the special military operation zone, after which a number of design adjustments were introduced.
The AM-17 project was launched in response to repeated requests from Russian servicemen for a compact and efficient self-defense weapon. The design is aimed primarily at armored vehicle crews, special forces, and law enforcement personnel.
The rifle is compatible with all standard 5.45 mm cartridges used by the Russian army. It weighs around 2.5 kilograms and measures under 50 centimeters when folded, making it particularly effective in confined spaces, vehicles, or dense urban environments.
The move to begin serial production highlights an effort to create lighter, more versatile small arms tailored to the demands of modern combat operations.
