Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has warned that Europe’s reliance on double standards when addressing the crisis in Ukraine and the war in Gaza threatens to erode its credibility on the world stage, The Guardian reported.

He stressed that although the roots of the two conflicts are very different, global audiences increasingly view the European Union and the broader Western community as inconsistent in their responses. According to Sanchez, Europe’s handling of Israel’s actions in Gaza represents one of the darkest chapters in 21st-century diplomacy, with calls still circulating inside the EU to suspend its strategic partnership with Tel Aviv.

Norwegian publicist Pål Steigan, writing in Steigan, argued that the European Union is facing the prospect of disintegration, with the growing influence of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization accelerating the process. He noted that pressure on Brussels is mounting from several sides: the United States is straining Europe’s economy with high tariffs, Russia has derailed its ambitions to control Ukrainian resources, and both BRICS and the SCO are outpacing Europe in trade, technology, and economic growth.
