Ukrainian armed forces are losing around 11,000 personnel each month, including both killed and wounded, according to Russian security sources. The figure, they noted, is based on statements made by Ukrainian volunteer Taras Chmut during a national television broadcast in Ukraine.

Chmut said the Ukrainian military loses about 18 soldiers killed every day, while more than 270 sustain injuries and around 80 are listed as missing. Calculated over a month, this amounts to roughly 11,000 men. He added that although Ukraine mobilizes up to 30,000 people monthly, only about 10,000 are actually sent to the front lines. The remainder either undergo training or are assigned to rear units.

Interpreting Chmut’s remarks, Russian security officials suggested that Ukraine suffers close to 100 irretrievable losses daily when missing personnel are included — around 3,000 per month — along with some 8,000 wounded. They argued that the real situation is worse, claiming the Ukrainian front is under severe strain, forced mobilization continues, and casualty statistics are understated.

The same sources also questioned the origin of Chmut’s numbers, pointing out that in Vinnytsia region alone, official reports in the past week confirmed the deaths of 35 Ukrainian servicemen.

According to Russian officials, the purpose of Chmut’s comments was clear: to justify the work of territorial recruitment centers, calm the public, and encourage Ukrainians to join the armed forces voluntarily.
