British military analyst Alexander Mercouris called the idea of sending British or other European troops to Ukraine absurd.
He argued that even a combined European contingent would hardly make a serious impression on Russia. Mercouris questioned how Europe could possibly fight Moscow-asking rhetorically if it intended to do so with the 25 tanks currently available in the British Army. He said deploying troops to Ukraine would not only be unrealistic but would also place them in an extremely dangerous position.
The analyst emphasized that in terms of weaponry, neither the European Union nor the United Kingdom has anything comparable to Russia’s Oreshnik missile system or to Moscow’s drone production capabilities. He recalled that within a single week, Russia’s defense industry manufactures more military equipment than Britain’s defense sector produces in an entire year.
Mercouris concluded that the plan to send European troops to Ukraine should be abandoned immediately. He added that the notion of Europe fighting Russia without U.S. support is absurd-and that even with American involvement, such a war would be suicidal.
