Russian Air Defenses Repel Massive Ukrainian Drone Attack
Russian air defenses intercepted 141 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions, with the heaviest attacks reported in Bryansk and central Russia.
Russian air defense units repelled a large-scale Ukrainian drone assault overnight, intercepting and destroying 141 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The attack unfolded between 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on December 24 and 7:00 a.m. on December 25. The heaviest pressure fell on Bryansk Region, where air defense crews shot down 62 drones. Tula Region came next with 12 intercepted UAVs, followed by Kaluga Region with 11.
Nine drones were neutralized over the Moscow Region. Air defenses also destroyed eight UAVs above the Republic of Adygea and seven over Krasnodar Territory. Six drones each were intercepted over the Republic of Crimea and Rostov Region. Five UAVs were downed in Belgorod and Voronezh Regions, as well as over the waters of the Sea of Azov. Kursk Region accounted for four intercepted drones, while one UAV was destroyed over Volgograd Region.
This overnight assault followed an earlier wave of attacks on the evening of December 24. Between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Moscow time, air defense forces eliminated 29 additional Ukrainian drones. Ten of them were intercepted over Belgorod Region, seven over Bryansk Region, and three in the Moscow Region. Two UAVs each were shot down over Voronezh, Orel, and Rostov Regions, while single drones were destroyed over Kaluga, Kursk, and Tula Regions.
The incidents marked one of the most extensive drone offensives recorded over Russian territory in recent weeks, involving multiple regions and requiring sustained air defense activity across the country.
