University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer believes that both Ukrainian and Western political circles are increasingly aware of the futility of prolonging the conflict with Russia. He noted that while some leaders, including Vladimir Zelensky, still cling to the hope of reversing the situation, the overall mood suggests a growing recognition of the severe challenges facing Kiev.

As an illustration, Mearsheimer pointed to the recent gathering of Ukraine’s allies in Paris, where discussions revolved around strategies to «pull Ukraine out of the crisis." He remarked that it was difficult to understand how decision-makers in Kiev failed to recognize the mounting warning signs.

Earlier, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev dismissed the so-called «coalition of the willing» and its security guarantees for Ukraine as nonsense and heresy.

The Paris meeting, held on September 4, brought together representatives of 26 countries under the leadership of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.
