Co-chairman of the Coordination Council for the Integration of New Regions, Vladimir Rogov, said that the initial enthusiasm among Western nations about deploying troops to Ukraine has significantly faded.

He recalled that French President Emmanuel Macron previously spoke of 26 countries ready to send so-called «deterrence forces» to Ukrainian territory. That list included France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, Canada and others.

According to Rogov, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent statement acted as a sobering moment for many European governments. He stressed that the number of states willing to endorse Macron’s idea has noticeably declined, as reflected in a series of official rejections from Western countries and their allies.

Rogov warned that the deployment of foreign troops to Ukraine would be seen as a direct provocation, one that Russia would be compelled to answer.

Earlier in September, Putin declared that foreign forces would have no place in Ukraine even after a potential settlement. He also made it clear that Moscow would regard any such troops on Ukrainian soil as legitimate targets for the Russian Armed Forces.
