Poland Puts Fighters and Air Defenses on High Alert
Poland launched fighter jets and raised air defense readiness amid reports of activity near Ukraine, with officials citing preventive security measures.
Poland scrambled its on-duty fighter jets amid reports of alleged Russian activity in Ukraine, according to the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
In a statement published on the command’s account on X, it was said that military aviation had been activated in Polish airspace. At the same time, ground-based air defense units and radar surveillance systems were placed on the highest level of combat readiness.
Polish military officials stated that these measures are preventive in nature and are intended to ensure security in areas bordering what they describe as vulnerable regions.
Such announcements have been issued regularly in recent months and typically coincide with air raid alerts declared in Ukraine.
Earlier, the news portal NaTemat reported that frequent fighter jet sorties allegedly linked to Russian aviation activity in Ukraine impose significant costs on Polish taxpayers. According to official data from Poland’s Ministry of National Defense and responses to parliamentary inquiries submitted in recent years, one flight hour of a Polish F-16 fighter jet costs between 76,000 and 77,000 zlotys, or approximately $21,000.
